Mentally-challenged minor allegedly raped at hospital

In yet another incident sexual assault on minor in the national Capital, a 15-year-old mentally ill girl, who had gone for a routine check-up at the GB Pant Hospital in central Delhi with her father, was allegedly raped by a staff member on 24 October.
The accused, who was a lift man in the government hospital, was immediately arrested after the girl’s father reported the matter to the police next day, police said on Monday.
According to police, the 15-year-old girl was mentally ill and she had gone to GB Pant Hospital with her father for the regular check up. The accused, identified as Zafar (35), had allegedly taken advantage of her mental condition, said a police officer requesting anonymity. On the morning of 24 October, the girl was waiting inside the hospital premises for her father, who had gone to the doctor to get some document’s done. Seeing her alone, the accused lured her to a secluded place inside the hospital itself and sexually abused her.
Later, he left from the spot leaving the girl there. The traumatised girl soon found her father and went back home. She reported the matter to her parents on the next day, said a senior police official. He further said, when the girl’s parents reported the matter to the police, she was immediately sent for a medical examination which confirmed sexual abuse.
‘A police team immediately went to GB Pant Hospital immediately and arrested Zafar, who later confessed to the crime. He was booked under section 376 of IPC and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,’ said Alok Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Central).
Senior officials of GB Pant Hospital said they came to know about the incident only when the accused was arrested from his staff quarter, situated behind the hospital premises.
They also clarified that the victim was never admitted in the hospital. On the day of the incident, she had come to the OPD for a check-up.
