Mentally challenged girl merely escapes fire at house

It could have been a tragic incident if the mentally challenged girl was not rescued on time from a burning house in Paharganj area of Central Delhi.

A call of fire was received at around 1 pm on Tuesday afternoon from Paharganj that fire has engulfed a house in gali number 9 which has two floors.

Soon after the call, the fire tenders were rushed to the spot. It is learnt that the fire started from the first floor. The occupants of the first floor Kusum had taken her mother Urmila to a local hospital. However, they left behind a 15-year-old girl who is said to be mentally challenged. The girl somehow got locked inside the house.

The two-storeyed building had nine people on the second floor. Some got stuck in the fire and tried to douse the flames. The locals of the area too tried to extinguish the fire. The cops from local police station 

rushed to the spot and rescued the girl from the flames who was later admitted to a hospital where she is undergoing treatment. The cops are now investigating what was the reason for the fire.
