Mehbooba praises admin for its role under Mufti rule

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday showered praise on J&K’s bureaucracy, saying it had worked with “single-minded dedication” and “out-of-box thinking” to ensure good governance under the Chief Ministership of her father late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

In a statement, she expressed gratitude to the administration for “tireless” efforts in following through Sayeed’s vision and commitment to address the demanding challenges confronting the state. “It was the firm belief of Mufti Sahab that not much can be achieved unless the administration is passionately and actively involved in the implementation of the government’s developmental and welfare agenda,” said Mehbooba, who is tipped to succeed her father as the Chief Minister.

“In 2002 and 2015, the administration expeditiously partnered with the political leadership and toiled tirelessly to turn Mufti Sahab’s vision for J&K’s prosperity into reality,” she said. She said it was because of the cooperative efforts at the political and administrative levels that various pioneering initiatives could be implemented in the state on governance and developmental fronts, during both the stints of Sayeed, in shortest possible time. Describing administration as critical to delivery of governance, Mehbooba said, “it was heartening to note how the officers at various levels, both in police and civil administration, worked with single-minded dedication and thinking out-of-box to ensure good governance, development and redress the grievances of the people” under Sayeed.

Mehbooba said her father always used to refer to the state administration as one of the best in the country. She said Sayeed used to see the administration as an interface between the elected representatives and the public.

She expressed her gratitude towards the administration for providing an environment to implement the government’s agenda under her father’s government.

Mehbooba yet to convene Legislature Party meet
Uncertainty continued over government formation in J&K as PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, who is tipped to be the next chief minister of the state, is yet to convene the Legislature Party meeting. “The party president has not made any moves yet. As and when any development takes place, we will let you know,” a senior PDP leader said. Mehbooba, who resumed work as PDP president last evening at the end of four-day mourning period for her father and former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has not yet called the Legislature party meeting.

“At the farewell function to the personal staff of Sayeed, the party legislators, who were also present, have thrown their weight behind the president on the future course of action. We are now waiting for her decision,” the leader said. Although BJP, the coalition partner of PDP in the government headed by Sayeed, has not given in writing its support to Mehbooba as the next chief minister yet, several party leaders including former deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh have expressed hope that the alliance with the regional party will continue for the rest of the term of the current assembly.
