Aiming to spread awareness about flaws in the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, School Management Committee (SMC) members of 19 states have come together to brainstorm future strategies.
While setting the agenda for the convention under the Right to Education (RTE) Forum, professor Vinay Kantha of Patna University said, “Only weakest are exploited and it is education that helps to develop ability to fight this evil. Therefore it is critical to have functioning SMCs that will ensure better education.” School Management Committee (SMC) members from 19 states of India have come together in Delhi for a two-day National SMC Convention: Strengthening Community Participation in School Education, that has been organised by RTE Forum.
Also on the occasion, Shruti Raman from National Law School of India University spoke of how Karnataka had realised the need for community involvement in the education system as early as 1995 which led to formation of the School Development and Monitoring Committee.
