MCD-MAMGAIN

Former BJP leader and MCD Works Committee chairman Jagdish Mamgain today praised the Delhi government for providing a Rs 1,831 crore financial assistance to the newly created three municipal bodies saying it will help restart development works in the city.

Welcoming the decision, Mamgain said it will also help the three new corporations overcome financial crisis.

He said the development works were paralysed due to pending payments of contractors.

"Now with the release of funds by city government, the payments will be cleared. The contractors will come forward to lift the new tenders and expedite the development works.

"The pensions of the needy old, widow and handicapped, pending for the last 10 months, may be cleared as Rs 1,000 per month is something important for them," he said.

Mamgain, who resigned from BJP after he was denied ticket to contest the MCD polls, said the three corporations should explore all possibilities to increase their revenue, so that they did not face financial crisis.

The decision to strengthen MCD and make the civic body self-dependent should be taken above vote-bank politics, he added.
