Maya’s brother held for assault on nephew, cop

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati’s brother Subhash Kumar was arrested by the Delhi Police after he allegedly assaulted his nephew and his wife and also slapped an on-duty constable. 

The incident took place on Wednesday morning when Kumar, a resident of Naraina in southwest Delhi, reached Inderpuri where his nephew lived with his wife and got into a quarrel with them, police said.

“Around 9:30 am Kumar, armed with a hockey stick, allegedly reached the couple’s residence and repeatedly knocked on their door. “When the door was not opened, he broke it open and then thrashed both his nephew and his wife,” said a police official quoting the woman’s complaint. The couple made a call to the Police Control Room (PCR) following which a team rushed to the spot, they 
said.

When the police team confronted him, Kumar allegedly slapped constable Jitender Singh twice following which he was apprehended by other policemen under several charges of the Indian Penal Code.

“An FIR under sections 452 (house trespass), 354 (assault/ criminal force to woman with intent to outrage modesty), 506 criminal intimidation, 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of IPC have been registered.” police said.
