‘Match-fixing charges insulting to team’

Rubbishing fresh claims that the 2011 India-Pakistan World Cup semifinal clash might have been fixed, BCCI on Sunday termed any such suggestion an insult to the national cricket team. A day after it was reported that a British journalist has expressed doubts over the match between the arch-rivals in his yet to be launched book, BCCI president N Srinivasan quashed the claims, saying, ‘I don’t generally comment on such reports but this is the farthest from the truth. It’s an insult to the Indian team which worked hard to win.’

The fixing claims come at a time when the sub-continental giants are set to resume bilateral cricket ties after five long years with a three-match ODI and two-game T20 series in December-January. In the extracts of the book published in British tabloid Daily Mail, the journalist claims he was tipped by an Indian bookie who predicted the trend and pattern of the match.
