Mary’s gold hunt is on

India came up with their best medal haul at Olympic Games with five-time women’s world champion boxer MC Mary Kom ensuring a fourth medal for the nation on Monday. Displaying brilliant skills, Mary thrashed her Tunisian rival Maroua Rahali 15-6 to romp into the semifinal in light fly [51-kg] categorystyle.

India has now surpassed its previous best record of three medals [one gold and two bronze medals], which it claimed at the Beijing Olympics four years ago. Pistol shooter Vijay Kumar has bagged a silver while rifleman Gagan Narang and shuttler Saina Nehwal clinched a bronze apiece from the Games so far. More medals are expected in the coming days with discus thrower Vikas Gowda qualifying for the final by hauling the metal to a distance of 65.20m in his second attempt. The US-based Indian has a best throw of 66.28m.
