Maruti Suzuki slides 3% in April

The country's largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki India on Wednesday reported 3.1 per cent decline in its total sales in April this year at 97,302 units.
The company had posted a total sales of 1,00,415 units in the corresponding month last year.
For April 2013, the city-based firm reported its domestic sales at 90,523 units, a marginal rise over 90,255 units in April, 2012, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.
MSI's exports last month went down by 33.28 per cent to 6,779 units from 10,160 units in the year-ago period, the company said.
However, sales of the company's mini segment cars, including the M800, A-Star, Alto and WagonR, rose by 13.69 per cent to 34,927 units from 30,720 units in April, 2012.
In the compact segment (comprising the Estilo, Swift and Ritz models), MSI witnessed 17.40 per cent fall in sales at 21,535 units as against 26,072 units in the same month a year ago.
Sales of MSI's DZiRE model increased by 25.38 per cent to 19,446 units from 15,510 units in the corresponding period a year ago.
In addition, MSI's mid-sized sedan SX4's sales slipped by 5.21 per cent to 601 units from 634 units in the year-ago month, MSI said.
Luxury sedan Kizashi witnessed no buyer last month compared to sales of three units in April 2012, it added.
Sales of utility vehicles went down by 4.92 per cent to 5,318 units from 5,593 units in the year-ago month. Sales of vans dipped by 25.82 per cent to 8,696 units from 11,723 units in the same month last year. MSI's total passenger car sales increased 4.89 per cent to 76,509 units in April from 72,939 units in the same month in 2012, it added.
TVS MOTOR SKIDS 6.4%
Two and three wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Company registered 6.44 per cent decline on its sales in April at 1,60,502 units.
The city-based company had sold 1,71,551 units in the same month of previous year, a company statement said.
Sales in the domestic market also declined by 5.54 per cent to 1,42,794 units in April 2013 as against 1,51,181 units sold in the same month of last year. On sales of motorcycles, the company had sold 67,849 units in April 2013 as against 67,966 units sold in same month of last year. Scooters sales slipped to 29,692 units in April 2013 from 35,833 units sold in the previous year.
HYUNDAI MOTOR INDIA RISES 4%
Country’s second-largest car maker Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Wednesday reported 4.3 per cent rise in total sales at 56,954 units in April, 2013.
The company had sold 54,606 units in the corresponding month of previous year, HMIL said in a statement.
In the domestic market, the company recorded a decline of 7.6 per cent in sales at 32,403 units compared to 35,070 units in the year-ago period, it added.
GM INDIA INCREASES 2%
General Motors India on Wednesday reported a 2.39 per cent increase in its sales at 8,196 units in April 2013. The company had sold 8,005 units in the same month of 2012, General Motors India said in a statement.
The sales during April 2013 include 1,986 units of Beat, 3,436 units of Sail and 1,571 units of Tavera, it added.
YAMAHA INDIA ZOOMS 44%
Two-wheeler maker Yamaha Motor India Sales (YMIS) on Wednesday reported 44.32 per cent increase in total sales for April at 52,792 units.
The company had sold a total of 36,581 units in the corresponding month last year, YMIS said in a statement.
In the domestic market, the company registered a rise of 33.34 per cent in its sales at 35,927 units compared to 26,944 units in the year-ago period, it added.
In the export markets, YMIS sold 16,865 units in April 2013 as against to 9,637 units in the same month last year, achieving a growth of 75 per cent.
TOYOTA KIRLOSKAR DOWN 37%
Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Wednesday reported 37.36 per cent decline in its domestic car sales at 9,007 units in April, 2013.
The company had sold 14,378 units in the corresponding month of last year, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) said in a statement.
During the month, the company exported 1,449 units of Etios series to South Africa, and hence the total sales registered in April this year stood at 10,456 units.
Commenting on sales, Toyota Kirloskar Motor deputy managing director and COO (marketing and commercial) Sandeep Singh said: ‘The market continues to be sluggish and is expected to take some time to revive. We have taken measures to reduce inventory, both at our and at the dealers end.’
RENAULT ACCELERATES 10-FOLD
France-based auto major Renault on Wednesday reported a 10-fold increase in its sales figure at 6,314 units in April this year.
The company had sold 615 units in the same month of 2012, Renault India said in a statement.
Last month, the company sold 5,362 units of its highly popular SUV Duster, 545 units of mid-size sedan Scala, 358 units of hatchback Pulse, 39 units of premium luxury sedan Fluence and 10 units of premium SUV Koleos, it said.
‘With a complete range of products and an extensive dealership presence, Renault India has seen both continued growth as well as recognition for our product quality, reliability and efficiency,’ Renault India Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) Sumit Sawhney said.
Renault India, along with Japanese auto major Nissan, has set up a manufacturing facility at Oragadam, near Chennai with a total capacity of producing 4 lakh units a year. The company has over 100 outlets across the country, the release added.
FORD INDIA CRASHES 24%
Car maker Ford India on Wednesday reported 24.03 per cent decline in total sales in April this year at 7,270 units. The company had sold a total of 9,569 units in the same month last year, Ford India said in a statement.
Domestic sales also went down by 44.41 per cent to 4,003 units in April this year as against 7,201 units in the same month last year, it added. The company exported 3,267 units last month compared to 2,368 units in the year-ago period, registering a rise of 37.96 per cent.
Commenting on the sales performance, Ford India Executive Director Vinay Piparsania said: ‘We are encouraged to see exports growing at a steady pace and we remain deeply optimistic about our business in India as we continue to expect growth in the long-term.’
