Four years have passed since the Batla House encounter but the demand for a judicial inquiry is still alive. In the encounter that took place on 19 September 2008, Mohan Chand Sharma [Delhi Police inspector and encounter specialist] lost his life, along with Atif Amin and Mohammed Sajid [suspected terrorists].
A peace march was carried out by India Awakening Forum in this regard on Tuesday. Jugal Kishore Shashtri, a well-known communal harmony activist, also joined the protest. Shastri said, ‘We must have to make ourselves accountable for our society, regardless of religion and caste. There is a strong need to come together to fight.’
After the encounter, Batla House had turned into a centre of controversy with residents of the area rubbishing police claims that the youths were members of Indian Mujahideen [IM].
For the last many years, several organisations have taken up this issue.
