Maran ‘pressurised’ Sivasankaran to sell stake companies, reveals CBI

In a startling revelation former, the CBI on Thursday has claimed that the former Telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran had ‘pressurised’ and ‘forced’ a Chennai-based telecom promoter C Sivasankaran to sell his stakes in Aircel and two subsidiary firms to Malaysian firm Maxis Group in 2006.

‘The accused number one (Dayanidhi Maran) has forced Sivasankaran to sell his companies stakes and subsequently Sivasankaran sold his three firms to Malaysia’s Maxis Communication Berhad,’ special judge OP Saini was told by the CBI on Thursday.

‘There was strangulation of these three companies and they were unable to perform their business. Several issues relating to Sivasankaran’s firms were kept pending by the former Telecom Minister. However, the moment Maxis Group bought Sivasankaran’s firms all the pending issues were cleared by Dayanidhi Maran giving undue benefit to the Malaysian company,’ CBI told the court.

Meanwhile, the public prosecutor of the case KK Goel told the court that ‘While going through the case it is now clear that Sivasankaran was the victim as he was not allowed to do his business by the former telecom minister.’

After being heard both the parties, the judge has decided to take up the matter on 22 September. ‘Documents which were returned to CBI for getting it scanned have been filed in the court.

Arguments on cognizance heard for sometimes and documents are voluminous and their perusal would take time. Put up for further arguments on cognizance on 22 September,’ the judge said.
