Maoist posters seen in Purulia ahead of Mamata’s visit

Fifty Maoist posters calling to observe the Martyrs’ week were on Monday found in Bandwan area of Purulia ahead of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to the district, official sources said.

The posters, seeking people’s support for the Martyrs’ Week beginning on Monday, were found in Chirudi area of Bandwan on Monday morning, district magistrate N Sudhir Kumar said.

Security has been beefed up to foil attempts by the Maoists to create violence during the week and in view of the chief minister’s scheduled visit to the district on 30 July next, he said.

Surveillance has been increased on the nine checkposts bordering the neighbouring state of Jharkhand, the district magistrate said.

Movement of outsiders to and from the district is also being monitored, Kumarsaid.
