Manjrekar inaugurates the first-of-its-kind football complex

In an attempt to enhance soccer skills of the students, the Newtown School has opened up a new plush green Football Complex at the school premises. Spread over an area of 14000 sq ft; this football ground is the first of its kind in the school.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar inaugurated the football complex in the presence of renowned rifle shooter and Olympian Mr Joydeep Karmakar, famous Southampton Club ex-footballer Mr Darrel Duffy, and ex-East Bengal Club footballer Mr Malsawmtluanga Syhlo.

The complex is well equipped with a high-quality imported Astro Turf with Shock Pad underlay and is a FIFA approved area for 6-a-side matches. Alongside, it has Floodlights to play after sunset, Gallery Seating and a 6-metre high fencing. 

The turf is also equipped with a 10mm shock pad underneath for safety and comfort of the players in case they fall while playing football. With a capacity to accommodate up to 250 people, it is designed following the international sports standards.

To mark the football ground open, an exhibition match was also held between two teams representing Don Bosco School and St. Lawrence High School Kolkata.
