Manipuri girl allegedly raped in Munirka

The horror of 16 December came back to haunt the infamous Munirka area in south Delhi where a minor Manipuri girl was brutally raped on Friday night by her landlord’s son triggering a scuffle between the police and protesters near the police station.

The 14-year-old girl was raped around 10.30 pm on Friday when she had gone out to get some household items. The accused, identified as Vicky, has been arrested after an FIR was registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Vasant Vihar police station. According to the police: ‘The accused forcibly grabbed her in front of a pharmacy near a hospital. She was dragged to a vacant room and raped.’ The girl is under medical treatment at Safdarjung hospital after she suffered injuries on her face and private parts in the brutal attack.

Following this, on Saturday, activists, students and people from the northeast held a protest outside Vasant Vihar police station. Twinkle, a protester, said: ‘The girl is traumatised and in bad shape. She has been raped repeatedly and brutally. Even animals are better than these culprits’. A scuffle took place between the police and protesters near the police station. The Aam Aadmi Party, while condemning the incident, said accountability of concerned police officials will have to be fixed so that such incidents are not repeated in future.
