Manipur youth death: All five accused sent to judicial custody

All five accused allegedly responsible for the death of 29-year old Manipuri man have been remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a Delhi court. The court also directed the police to preserve the CCTV footage which is the prime evidence in the case. 

Metropolitan magistrate Ashok Kumar while sending the accused to Tihar Jail has allowed the contention of one of the accused Rajiv to keep CCTV footage in safe custody. ‘Please ask the police to preserve the CCTV footage, which is the only evidence in the case,’ said Rajiv’s Counsel Lavkesh Chaudhary.

Earlier, police had told the court that the assault was captured on CCTV cameras installed in south Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur area. The footage showed one of the men wrapping a cloth around victim Akha Salouni’s neck and swinging him around in the air. Lokesh Bhadana, who was at large was arrested by Delhi Police Wednesday evening. He along with four other accused- Shakti Basoya (21), his cousin Sanjay Basoya (24), Rajiv (25) and Azad Chaudhary were produced before the court amid tight security.

According to police, all four belong to Garhi area in south Delhi but were picked up from different places in the city.
