Maneka goes live on Facebook, lists govt achievements

The interaction, which began at 9 am, received an overwhelming response with over 100,000 people participating in a live chat with the minister.

Gandhi apprised people of her ministry’s achievements in the past two years. The interaction aimed to get direct feedback and suggestions from people on ‘Transforming India’.

Gandhi answered questions ranging from women’s security to child health to policies and schemes launched by the ministry. She was also asked about the recently released Draft National Policy for Women, adoption, violence against women, harassment against elderly women, child rights, foster care and gender sensitisation, among others.

The minister shed light on the various initiatives launched by her ministry such as digitisation of anganwadis , one-stop centres to help women in distress, training of woman sarpanches, panic buttons in phones, 33 per cent reservation for women in police force, women volunteers in every village and several efforts for the welfare of women and children of the country. She added that these initiatives have already started showing positive results and others would be apparent as time goes by.

The chat had to be extended due to the heavy stream of questions. The Minister said, “Facebook Live Chat will be a regular feature as it is one of the finest ways to connect with people in the tech-savvy world”.
