Man who allegedly raped American minor held

The suspected Nigerian national, who allegedly raped a 17-year-old American girl on March 16 and was absconding since then, finally landed in the police net on Thursday night.

Based on a tip off, the police laid a trap at Gurgaon’s IFFCO Chowk and intercepted the accused, Ekeh David (22), when he was heading towards MG Road in a Hyundai i10 car. The police also recovered a fake South African passport from his possession, said a police official.

On being interrogated, David reportedly told the cops that since March 18 — the date on which a case was registered against him — he had been hiding at various locations in Delhi and Gurgaon respectively. He also allegedly didn’t meet his pregnant wife — a woman from Bihar — who lived with him at his rented apartment at Gurgaon’s Sector 46. David also reportedly told the police that he had contacted someone who was about to get him a new passport and he was allegedly desperate to leave the country as soon as possible, said the official. 

He was presented at a court on Friday, which sent him on one day police custody. While interrogating David, the police shall also investigate about rackets of suspected touts in the region who dealt with fake passports, including the ones David had requested for.

On Thursday, David was intercepted by a special team formed by Crime Unit (2) at Sector 17 Gurgaon Police, the official added. The girl met David over Facebook and they reportedly became friends. On March 16, David allegedly asked her out and took her to a guest house in Gurgaon Sector 46, where David allegedly raped her. When the girl was reported feeling uneasy on March 18, her mother — who works at an MNC in Gurgaon — took her to AIIMS, where the doctor confirmed rape.
