Man tries to rape minor, arrested

A 21-year-old man who tried to rape a minor on Tuesday was arrested after the child’s grandmother lodged a complaint. The man, who has been identified as Rohit Saini, is reportedly a neighbor of the victim.
‘The grandmother of a seven-year-old girl from Sarai Rohilla area of north Delhi reported the case in the afternoon on Tuesday. The incident took place near the house of the girl when the girl was returning from her school,’ said Sindhu Pillai, deputy commissioner of police, north Delhi.
According to the police, the grandmother found the girl missing from the spot where her school bus drops her everyday since she reached a little late. A women told her that she had seen the child leaving the spot with a man. ‘Since the child was talking to the man and appeared to know him, I didn’t raise an alarm,’ the woman said.
Alarmed, the grandmother started looking for the child and allegedly caught Rohit red-handed trying to rape the child in a room near his own house.
‘A case has been filed and investigation is on. The accused has been arrested,’ a police officer informed.
