Man strangulated by wife, paramour

A 35-year-old man was allegedly strangulated to death by his wife and wife’s lover at his residence in East Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar area, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on the intervening night of June 24 and 25, when the victim, identified as Salim, was made to have alcohol with one of the accused, Rizwan (24). Once he was turned indefensible, both Rizwan and Salim’s wife, Gulistaan (26), allegedly strangulated him, said a police official.

The accused were arrested by the police on June 26 (Friday).

Rizwan is a distant relative of Gulistaan and he was living with the couple for about five months. Salim suspected that his wife was involved in an extramarital affair, and when he found out it was Rizwan, the duo allegedly hatched a plan to remove Salim.

According to the police, the murder was meticulously planned. First Gulistaan convinced Salim that he had misunderstood her and there was nothing between her and Rizwan. Then Rizwan approached him and persuaded him for a celebration. They opened a bottle late at night and drank until Salim passed out. Then the duo allegedly strangled him.
