Man stabs mother-in-law to death, others severely injured

A man stabbed his in-laws including his wife and mother-in-law at their residence in southwest Delhi’s Sagarpur area on Sunday afternoon. 

While his mother-in-law succumbed to her injuries others are still recuperating.

The incident took place at around 3 pm when a heated argument between the accused, identified as Bhupender Tanwar (35) and his in-laws turned violent.  He allegedly attacked all of them with a knife he was carrying with him. ‘Bhupender fled away from the spot and remained at large till late Sunday evening,’ Suman Goyal, Deputy Commissioner of police (Southwest) said. 

He was currently unemployed and had a dispute with his wife, Poonam. They got married twelve years ago and since their marriage the woman was allegedly harassed by her husband over pity issues.  After the recent tiff, she left her husband’s home started staying with her family in Sagarpur area. On the day of the incident, Bhupender went to his in-law’s residence and forced her to return home. When she refused he became violent and started abusing her.

Two of her bothers, identified as Ankur and Pankaj intervened and a heated argument took place between them. Meanwhile, her mother-in-law, Kaushaliya (55) also interfered and tried to stop the scuffle. 

Bhupender pulled out the knife from his pocket and attacked all of them with the same weapon, said a relative of the woman.
