Man shot dead by robbers in central Delhi

In a case of daring shootout near Zakir Hussain College in Central Delhi, a person was killed and another injured on Monday morning. The firing took place during a robbery at a boutique in Kamla Market area.
The assailants looted Rs 8,000 from Shakil, the shop owner, and four cell phones from other workers at gunpoint. The incident took place around 11.45am in Basti Hazrat Khwaja Meer Dard, an area behind Zakir Hussain college. The injured, Mohammed Nawab Ali, a butcher, 62, has been admitted to LNJP hospital, with bruises in his thigh and forearm, and is stated to be critical.
According to the police, the incident took place around 11.45 am when five armed assailants entered the boutique. ‘The assailants entered the handicraft boutique in Basti Hazrat Khwaja Meer Dard, near Zakir Hussain College. At gunpoint, they looted four cell phones and Rs 8,000 from owner Mohammed Shakeel and snatched his mobile phone too,’ the police official said.
When the robbers were running away after committing the crime, passersby, Mohammed Sultan, 42, and Mohammed Nawab Ali tried to apprehend them but Sultan was shot in the head by the assailants and he immediately died. Nawab Ali, who was injured, tried to stop the assailants but failed to catch them as they fired another shot in the air to scare people them away.
‘Sultan was shot in the head and died on the spot. Another man, 62-year-old Mohammed Nawab, tried to catch them but was shot in his thigh and fore-arm,’ police official said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that first a man had come inside the factory on the pretext of asking for an address. He came back after some minutes, along with a group of five youngsters, and barged into the boutique.
Nawab was taken to LNJP hospital, where he is in a critical condition. ‘We have filed a case and are looking for the criminals,’ police said. ‘The police were informed about the shootout around 11.45 am. The motive behind the attack or the identity of the attackers are not yet clear,’ the official said.
Police have recovered three empty cartridges and one live cartridge from the spot. Investigators are scanning the footage of nearby area and trying to get some major lead from the place.

As many as four robbers broke into the house of a retired officer of Foreign Ministry on Monday and looted cash and valuables worth over Rs 70 lakh in Ghaziabad. The robbers broke the windows of the house to enter. According to the police, the incident took place around 3 am on Monday, when the Ram Kishan, 70, was in his house in Ramprastha, Ghaziabad with his wife and handicapped daughters. The robbers threatened them with pistols to get the key and took Rs 30,000 in cash, and jewellery. Police, however, suspected the claim about the amount of the jewellery and demanded a list. ‘We have picked up some suspects from the area and interrogation is being carried out. We have also demanded a detalied list of the jewellery looted,’ said Upendra Kumar Yadav, Inspector, Link Road.
