Man shot at for trying to foil robbery bid

A 32-year-old man was shot at by unidentified men in east Delhi’s Khajoori Khas area for refusing to part with his mobile phone on Monday morning. The accused fled from the spot and are still at large.
The victim has been identified as Umesh, a resident of Sadatpur area of Karawal Nagar. At around 6.30 am Umesh went for a morning walk. When he reached Aadharshila Public School, two men on a motorcycle approached him. They stopped their two-wheeler and asked him to hand over his mobile phone to them.
When he resisted, the pillion rider tried to snatch the phone. The assailants opened fire at him when he raised an alarm. The accused then fled the spot with the mobile phone.
A passerby informed the police and a team reached the spot. He was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur hospital and is said to be out of danger.
‘One bullet hit Umesh in the knee while the second one entered his stomach,’ the official said.
A case under the relevant sections of the Indian penal Code including charges of attempt to murder has been registered at Khajuri Khas police station. Police are scanning the CCTV footage from the nearby areas to get clues on the identity of the assailants.
