Man sets partner ablaze after fight

A heated argument turned into tragedy when a 25-year-old woman  was set ablaze by her live-in-partner in Laxmi Nagar area of east Delhi on Thursday. The accused also received burn injuries, while victim is now fighting for her life.

According to police, the victim, identified as Sahroon Datia, hails from Bihar. For the last few months, after she separated from her husband, she came in contact with one Rohit Kapoor, 30, a resident of Laxmi Nagar. Kapoor is married. On late Wednesday evening, when Datia asked Kapoor to lend her some money so that she could visit her home in Bihar, he refused. This led to a heated argument, which turned violent. An angry Kapoor then poured petrol on Datia and set her ablaze.

‘A call to the police control room was made by one of the neighbours, who said  smoke was coming from a residence in Laxmi Nagar. When the cops reached the spot, they found the couple was lying unconscious on the floor. They were immediately rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital,’ a police official investigating the matter said. Condition of Datia is said to be critical and the possibility of her survival is very less. ‘She is fighting for her life with 90 per cent burn burn injuries. Kapoor  suffered 40 per cent injuries,’ doctors told police.

A case under section-307 (attempt to murder) has been registered against Kapoor. ‘We are investigating the matter from all plausible angles. It is yet to be ascertained exactly how Kapoor got injured in the incident,’ the official said.
