Man sentenced to 15-month-jail term for snatching chain, injuring woman

A man has been sentenced to 15 months rigorous imprisonment by a Delhi court for snatching a gold chain of an Army man’s wife and injuring her while she was travelling in a train.
Metropolitan magistrate Pawan Singh Rajawat handed down the jail term to Uttar Pradesh resident Vinod Kumar for the offences of theft and assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft which entails a maximum sentence of two and three years respectively.
‘All the witnesses have supported the case of the prosecution and correctly identified the accused as the person who snatched her gold chain with mangalsutra. No material contradictions are found in the testimonies of witnesses. Hence, I am satisfied that the case of the prosecution is proved beyond reasonable doubts,’ the magistrate said, while convicting Kumar, who had committed the crime with his co-accused, who is absconding.
The court refused to take a lenient view towards him saying, ‘The convict (Kumar), along with
co-accused (since absconding), has snatched gold chain with mangalsutra of the woman by using criminal force upon her body in furtherance of their dishonest common intention.’
