In a bizarre incident on Monday, a man smothered his wife to death as she used to pressurise him to kill his younger brother for property. After killing her, the man also committed suicide.
According to the police, the woman had even attempted to kill her husband’s younger brother by serving him poison-laced food, around a fortnight ago. Police has registered cases against the deceased.
According to police, Shamsher Khan, 26, a resident of Anjali Vihar in Loni area of Ghaziabad, got married to Gulshan, 23, around 10 months ago. Gulshan wanted Khan to kill his brother Sarfaraz, 23, who also got married recently, to get his property.
‘She wanted to eliminate the younger brother to get the entire paternal property in her husband’s name. Earlier, she had served poisonous food to Sarfaraz, which she accepted in front of a panchayat called to settle the matter,’ said Brij Mohan Yadav, Inspector, Loni police station. Even after the intervention of the panchayat, Gulshan did not give up the plan to kill Sarfaraz.
On Monday morning, the family found Khan’s body hanging from the ceiling fan of his bedroom, while the body of his wife was lying on the bed. According to a suicide note recovered from the room, Khan has blamed his father-in-law for inciting his wife to murder his brother, and this was the sole reason behind the extreme step. Police are investigating into the matter to find any evidence against Gulshan’s father.
‘We have registered a case of attempted murder under Section 307 of IPC against the deceased woman, as she had served poison-laced food to her brother-in-law with an intention to kill him, around a fortnight ago. A case has also been registered against her dead husband under Sector 302 of IPC for murdering her,’ said Yadav.
