Man kills sister’s rival, held

A?30-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, for gunning down Meenakshi Rana in outer Delhi’s Rohini area on Tuesday, in front of her four-year-old son.

A country-made pistol and the motorcycle used in commission of the crime have also been recovered.

‘Sandeep alias Neetu was arrested from Bawana area of outer Delhi on Wednesday,’ said Mohammad Akhtar Rizvi, additional deputy commissioner of police (Outer).

‘He is related to Meenakshi’s husband Parminder. He is the brother of Parminder’s first wife Ritu. He has confessed to have killed Meenakshi to take revenge,  as he believes she spoiled Ritu’s married life, said Rizvi.

On sustained interrogation, Sandeep told police that Ritu married Parminder in 2004. The relations between the two families, however, got  strained in 2006 due to matrimonial issues.

‘Parminder started avoiding Ritu and began living with Meenakshi. So, Sandeep and his family members tried to sort the matter with him, but to no avail,’ Rizvi added.

Thereafter, Ritu filed several cases against Parminder regarding harassment for dowry, domestic violence and maintenance at courts in Rohini and Sonepat.

It has also come to light that Parminder used to threaten Sandeep and his family members, and had  arranged for a country-made pistol for the purpose.

Fed up with court cases, Parminder then made efforts for compromise, and since 2010, Ritu started living in her in-laws house at Khera Kalan with Parminder.

After some time, Parminder again started avoiding her and started living with Meenakshi.

‘Due to this, relations between the families of Ritu and Parminder worsened. Sandeep was also under stress as Parminder was not ready to patch up with Ritu,’ Rizvi said.

Subsequently, Sandeep tried several times mend fences with Parminder, but the latter threatened him of dire consequences.

Sandeep finally tried to convince Parminder on Monday, but he did not pay any heed, and told him that he was not going to leave Meenakshi.

On Tuesday morning, Sandeep went to Rohini Sector 18 in search of Parminder, but could not find him. He then went to his flat in Rohini Sector 16 and saw Meenakshi along with her four-year-old son.

‘He started following Meenakshi and opened fire at an isolated place in Rohini Sector 16. Meenakshi died due to bullet injuries on forehead, neck and chest. We have recovered the fired cartridges from the spot,’ Rizvi added.
