Man held for raping Delhi varsity student

In yet another incident of crime against women in the national capital, police have arrested the owner of an event management company for the alleged rape of a Delhi University student, from his residence at Malviya Nagar in south Delhi on Friday night. He allegedly raped the victim in his office last week on the pretext of a job.

The victim, a student pursuing her graduation through correspondence from the University of Delhi, had reported the incident to the police on Wednesday. But it was on Friday that the police arrested the accused, Vikas (35), said sources.

Sources said the victim has told the police that she met Vikas a few months ago, through a mutual friend, and started talking to him over phone. The accused offered her a job a few weeks ago and asked her to meet him at his office. When she went to meet him, he allegedly raped her.

Vikas also abused the victim physically when she resisted and threatened her of dire consequences, said sources.

On the basis of the girl’s statement, a case has been registered against Vikas under section 376 of IPC (rape), section 420 (cheating), section 506 (intimidation) and section 328 (causing hurt), said a police official. The victim has been sent for counselling, he added.
