Man found charred in car, was killed by son

Within 24 hours of a 65-year-old man found dead inside a burnt car at southwest Delhi’s Kapashera area, the police arrested his son on charges of murder on Friday.

According to the cops, the accused, Abhinav Baweja (38), is the manager at a publication house in Delhi. He wanted to set up his own business for which he needed funds. He frequently had arguments with his father, Subhash Baweja, in connection with a house, which Abhinav allegedly wanted to be transferred in his name and Subhash denied. Abhinav was Subhash’s younger son.

During a heated argument on Wednesday night, Abhinav hit his father with a baseball bat and then strangled him with a cloth to make sure that he was dead, at their residence in West Delhi’s Kirti Nagar. Later, he wrapped Subhash’s body in a bedsheet and shoved it inside his Maruti Esteem car. Abhinav allegedly kept driving the car until he found a secluded spot near a farmhouse in Kapashera area. There he put the vehicle on fire along with his father’s body to make it look like an accident.
Around 9.30 am on Thursday, the police received a call regarding a burnt car with a man’s body trapped inside it, apparently charred to death.

Clues were obtained from the car’s registration number that was partially visible on its damaged number plate and thus the identity of the deceased was ascertained. During <g data-gr-id="28">investigation</g>, it emerged that the deceased had gone missing under mysterious circumstances, said RA Sanjeev, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West).

He further <g data-gr-id="27">said,</g> it was during questioning that Abhinav confessed to the crime. He also told the police that he was actually heading for Gurgaon, but the heavy traffic in South Delhi made him pull over at Kapashera and set his car ablaze.
