Man flashing poster on peace in Kashmir detained

Amid tension in Kashmir after the encounter of Hizbul Mujahideen’s commander Burhan Wani, the Delhi police have detained a Kashmiri resident of Gurgaon for allegedly demonstrating with a poster in Dwarka area, demanding peace in the Valley.

The man, identified as Amir Amin (24), hails from Shopian in J&K. The police said Amin works with an MNC and lives in Sector-13, Gurgaon. “Around 3 pm, we have received a call that a suspect was demonstrating a controversial poster at South-West Delhi’s Dwarka Sector-9 area. A PCR team, along with the local police, reached the spot and nabbed him,” a senior police official said.

The police said the poster that Amin was flashing read: “Kashmir mein humein shanti chahiye (We want peace in Kashmir)”. Confirming about Amin’s detention, Surender Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West), said: “After initial interrogation, he has been handed over to the Special Cell of the Delhi Police.”

Sources in Special Cell said: “We are accessing his call details. However, he appears to be innocent. But when the entire country is talking about Kashmir and the situation is sensitive across the country, one cannot provoke sympathisers of Kashmir. We won’t let anyone disturb the law and order situation.”
