Man dead in Meethapur car crash, 1 arrested

A 52-year-old BSNL employee was killed, while her 25-year-old niece was injured after a speeding car allegedly hit them in South-East Delhi's Meethaur area on Tuesday night. 

Police said one of the accused was arrested, while other three were on the run.

After the incident, irate residents set the car ablaze. However, fire tenders later doused the blaze, police said.

According to the police, the incident took place around 11.30 pm when the victims were returning home from a chemist shop in the Meethapur area. 

The speeding Indigo car, in which four persons were sitting, allegedly hit the duo from behind. Soon after the incident, three of the occupant managed to flee, police said. 

Residents, however, caught hold of the  fourth accused, identified as Keshav Kumar (23), who was handed over to the police. 

The victims – Raj Mangal Singh and Pinky – were taken to a hospital. Singh was taken to the Apollo Hospital in an autorickshaw. The hospital authorities pronounced him brought dead. 

Pinky is admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, police said, adding that she was now out of danger. 

A case has been registered against the car occupants. However, the police are yet to find out who was behind the wheels and what led to the accident. Kumar told the police that he, along with his friends, was going to watch Dussehra celebrations when the accident took place. 

The police are questioning him about the whereabouts of the three accused, who are on the run.
