Man dead after car crashes into pillar

A 25-year-old man, who was allegedly drunk driving, died when his Skoda Laura car rammed into a metro pillar in the Rohini area of Outer Delhi on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Sumit Balwaani. Police suspect that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. However, they are waiting for the post-mortem reports to know the exact cause of death.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 4.40 am when Sumit was allegedly drunk driving his Skoda Laura car after visiting his father’s factory in Narela. He is a resident of Ashok Vihar. He was heading from Rithala towards Madhuban Chowk when the accident happened. The collision with the metro pillar was so severe that Sumit had to be taken out from the roof of the car using cutters.

Police said that the car was completely dismantled with Sumit stuck inside it. Rescue teams along with the local police rushed to the spot. He was then rushed to the Bhim Rao Ambedkar hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

A case has been registered at North Rohini police station under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304(A) (causing death due to negligence) of the IPC. Police have started investigation.
