A 21-year-old sales manager, working for Audi, was crushed to death when his car collided with a moving trailer on the Gurgaon-Faridabad road late on Saturday night. The accused driver is still absconding.
The victim, identified as Puneet Sharma was a resident of sector-37, Faridabad. During the incident, Sharma was returning from Gurgaon in his white-coloured Etios after attending a late night party sponsored by his company. It was only a week ago that he got the job as a sales manager in the company office at sector-56, Gurgaon.
According to police, at around 1.45 am, Sharma was driving his car bearing the number plate, HR 51 AS 2292, at a high speed and there is a possibility that he was under the influence of alcohol. When he reached Janpad Mor, Phase-I on Gurgaon-Faridabad road he collided with a trailer (trucks that carry massive consignments) truck.
‘The trailer was taking a turn from the T-point. With no discernible display of its indicator, to alert other commuters, Sharma was unable to see the vehicle and his car rammed into it. Half the car’s roof went under the trailer and Sharma died on the spot,’ the investigating official said.
Soon after the collision, the driver of the trailer escaped from the spot, leaving his vehicle at the crime scene. A passerby, who witnessed the accident, called the police control room. Sharma’s body was stuck in the car and it took rescuers a few minutes to take him out of the damaged car.
He was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. With the help of a few documents he had carried in his wallet, his identity was established and family members were informed accordingly. On Sunday afternoon, his body was handed over to the family after conducting the post-mortem, whose reports are awaited.
‘Sharma was the only son in his whole maternal family. He was residing with his single mother as he lost his father when he was 12. Soon after completing school, he started working to earn his livelihood,’ said Nikhil Goyal in a choked voice. Nikhil is one of the deceased’s friend.
Till late Sunday evening, the accused driver, booked under motor vehicle acts and negligent driving (resulting in death) under the Indian Penal Code remained absconding. However, the owner of the trailer, identified as Malik, was called to identity of the driver. ‘Further investigation is underway,’ the police official added.
