Man attacks ex-wife’s family, one dead, four injured

On late Monday night, a 57-year-old man was shot dead and five of his family members received severe injuries after being stabbed by the deceased’s former son-in-law in south east Delhi’s Jaitpur. The accused has been arrested while three persons are still absconding.
The incident took place at 1 am, when Om Prakash (57)’s, family were sleeping in their under construction residence in Latpat colony of Jaitpur. During that period, Vikram along with his three friends entered the house and shot Prakash on his chest.
After shooting his father-in-law, Vikram went inside the other rooms along with his friends, and attacked the rest of Prakash’s family members with knives. They victims of the stabbing have been identified as Batti Devi (55), Jai Prakash (35), Madan Mohan (27) and Sunita (23). Vikram also stabbed his ex-wife Suman (23). ‘The reason behind this heinous crime is alleged to be personal rivalry, as Suman divorced Vikram and recently tied the knot with another person,’ a police official said.
In 2009, the Vikram and Suman got married but soon after their marriage their relationship fell on difficult times. In 2010, the matter was brought to the panchayat in Jaitpur, where the Sarpanch took a call of separating the couple. As per the decision, they underwent divorce proceedings in the local court. ‘A man-hunt is on to nab the absconding culprits,’ the police said.
