Five months after a 26-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by a group of bike-borne assailants in Jahangirpuri in Delhi’s North-west area, Delhi Police on Saturday finally arrested an absconding criminal, on whom it had placed a reward of Rs 50,000 in connection with the murder.
According to the police, last year, on December 22, Dinesh Kumar, a construction material supplier was sitting near his shop in Jahangirpuri when a group of bike-borne assailants came and fired at him. Police said after firing at Dinesh, the assailants fled from the spot.
The locals rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead after which the police were informed. Police are suspecting it to be a case of personal rivalry, and a case of murder was registered at the Mahindra Park police station against unknown persons.
During investigation, police identified the culprits and arrested two persons identified as Anil Sonkar and Arvind Kumar while other three, Sarjeev, Naveen Gujjar and Deepak Gujjar were absconding.
“On May 7, 2016, keeping a track of the accused through technical surveillance coupled with a secret information, Special Cell of the Delhi Police traced two of the accused, Naveen Gujjar and Sarjeev and arrested them,” said a senior police officer.
“Next day, based on a secret information, a trap was laid by the North-west district police and Deepak was nabbed from his native village in Uttar Pradesh,” added the officer. Further investigation is underway.
