Man arrested for duping people of Rs 10 crore

Delhi Police arrested a 37-year-old law graduate who had duped thousands of innocents of more than Rs 10 crore in Rajasthan. Investigators said that the accused, Vishal Yadav had been duping innocent people for the past 12 years on the pretext that if they invest in his investment firm, he will give double returns on their investment.

They said that apart from cheating thousands of people in Kota and Jaipur in Rajasthan, Yadav targeted many IAS and IPS officers in Delhi as well. Sources said that Yadav had allegedly duped a Tihar Jail official of the Tamil Nadu cadre of Rs 2 crore too. An officer revealed that Yadav is the kingpin and at least ten people work under him.

According to an officer privy to the investigation, Yadav himself approached police painting himself as a victim.

“On July 12, Vishal Yadav approached the Special Staff of North-west district alleging that two persons of a private technical college named ‘Margaret Educational Society’ (MES) are trying to cheat him. MES provided technical training to B Tech aspirants in Rajasthan. Yadav complained against Baldev Raj Goswami and MES’ manager Navin Goswami and said that the teachers of MES were working in a Prashant Vihar-based teaching institute as well as in MES which according to Yadav was known by Baldev and Navin.”

“When we started the investigation, we found that Yadav was a key member of the board of directors of MES. When we cross questioned its Chairman, and the Manager, Navin Goswami, they reported that Yadav was defaming them because he wanted to take over the college. With a student strength of 2,000, the college took low fees. This was to attract more students,” said the officer.

The officer further added that “A day before Yadav came to us, that is on July 12, one of our policemen received an information that a person accused in some criminal cases in Rajasthan is hiding in our district.”

The officer further added: “Simultaneously, we contacted the Rajasthan Police to verify about his background. So on July 13, we called Yadav to our office in Pitampura and confronted him with the cases registered against him in Kota and Jaipur. On sustained interrogation, Yadav confessed to cheating tens of thousands of people.” Police registered a case under Section 41.1 of the CrPC and handed over Vishal Yadav to Rajasthan Police on transit remand.
