Man arrested; extortion case solved

With the arrest of a 29-year-old man from Ahmedabad, Delhi Police claimed to have solved an extortion case in which Rs 10 lakh was allegedly demanded from a garment trader in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar, police said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Ali Hassan, had allegedly threatened the garment trader that he, along with other members of the gang, would kill the garment trader’s parents in Bihar’s Sheohar district. The trader received first such call on December 22, 2014, in which the caller claimed that they had chopped off his mother’s hands. “Though the information was exaggerated, it wasn’t untrue. Two accomplices of Ali actually went to the complainant’s parents house in Sheohar and attacked his mother with a knife. They also picked up a wrong child for abduction, who was later freed,” said a police official.

The complainant again turned up in last week of April and demanded money again. They also allegedly set the complainant’s Sheohar house ablaze.
