A two-year-old boy died after he was shot at by his father’s rival who allegedly wanted to kill the child’s father over some personal enmity in West Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area on Thursday night.
According to the police, the accused blindly fired through the window of the room and the bullet pierced through the victim, Yash’s head while he was asleep.
Police have registered a murder case and have arrested the co-accused, Ashok and are likely to arrest the main accused, Vinod soon.
The incident took place on Thursday at around 10.40 pm in the Madipur colony of Punjabi Bagh area when, the accused, Vinod, accompanied by his friend, Ashok, reached Lalit’s house. In a bid to eliminate Lalit, Vinod stood outside Lalit’s room window and opened fire. However, Vinod missed the shot and accidentally shot Lalit’s child Yash who was sleeping at that time, said police.
On hearing a gunshot, Lalit and his wife woke up and saw the two accused running away. Seeing their son lying in a pool of blood, they raised an alarm. Lalit’s family members then informed the police after which the cops rushed the child to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
“Both Lalit and Vinod belong to criminal background. They had frequent scuffles and in order to kill Lalit, Vinod opened fire. They first met in jail and while languishing in jail, they got to know each other,” said a senior police official. “We have arrested one of the assailants, Ashok. Search is on to nab Vinod. He will be arrested soon,” said Pushpendra Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).
