After securing 114 seats in the recently held Kolkata Municipal Council (KMC) elections, the Mayor’s oath-taking ceremony was held at Town Hall. “Every election in a democracy is a celebration of democracy,” Banerjee said. She added, “Kolkata is a non-planned city, yet I can say confidently that we are No. 1 among all metros. No other city can match Kolkata in cordiality among people,” said Banerjee.
On Wednesday, the Chief Minister had interacted with the newly elected councillors and advised them to work for the people.
She added that Kolkata had witnessed a lot of development in the past five years. The Chief Minister is scheduled to go visit London soon to get a first-hand experience on how the civic administration works there. After that, she will brief the councillors about it.
Speaker of West Bengal Assembly Biman Banerjee and prominent personalities from all walks of life and KMC officials attended the swearing-in ceremony. Some councillors had taken oath on Tuesday at the KMC building.
