Mamata talks peace, development to Lepchas

'I am sorry for disruption in the development process in the Darjeeling hills, but my government is committed to expedite it in the interest of people there as well as the entire state,' Banerjee said at a rally organised by the Lepcha Development Board here.

On her Facebook status, Banerjee wrote, 'In a colourful function at Kurseong  where thousands of my smiling Lepcha brothers and sisters had assembled, I distributed assistance for Lepcha Houses (Rong Lee) to 1000 poor Lepcha women. Each beneficiary will get 2 lakh for building own house'.

Banerjee said that her Government distributed Rs 1 lakh in cheque per person as the first instalment on Wednesday. Also, three ambulances were flagged off for hill sub-divisions of Kurseong, Kalimpong and Darjeeling.

'I am happy to see that Darjeeling is cool and normal. I request my tourist friends to visit and enjoy beautiful Kurseong, Kalimpong and Darjeeling. More beautiful than these places, are my brothers and sisters of Darjeeling. I wish to see continued peace and development for the prosperity of Darjeeling', she said at the gathering.
