Mamata off to oversee Jangalmahal projects

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee left for a two-day trip to Jangalmahal on Wednesday to oversee the development of projects she had initiated in the Maoist-affected districts of Purulia and Bankura.

Ever since the Trinamool government came to power in 2011, the twin districts of Bankura and Purulia, have been on the chief minister’s priority list for ‘development’. With the parliamentary elections this year halting the progress of these projects for some time, Banerjee has been pressing for speedy implementation of the same ever since. She will review the status of these projects on this trip.

On Thursday, Banerjee will conduct an administrative meeting in Purulia. Apart from announcing and flagging off new projects, she will also confer Government grants to the public. The chief minister will also hold an administrative meet in Bankura on the same day.

On Friday, Banerjee is scheduled to inaugurate various development projects in Bankura. She will also  give away Government grants to the people on the same day. The chief minister has already committed top-of the line medical facilities in the two districts. Drinking water projects are also under way.

One of the Trinamool government’s main achievements after coming to power has been to usher in peace and development to the maoist-infested Jangalmahal and the Hills of Darjeeling.
