Opposing the railway fare hike, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has dubbed it ‘anti-people’ and questioned whether it was ethical to raise it before the general budget.
‘Railway fare for all classes has been increased on an average by 20 percent on Thursday. In the last budget there was an increase of about 8 percent in AC first and AC second classes only.
‘On Thursday's decision... is anti-people. Budget is coming next month. Is it ethical to increase fare before budget? It is too much. We do not agree,’ Banerjee, also Trinamool Congress president, said in a post on her Facebook page.
Attacking the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance, she said recently it has raised prices of ‘many essential commodities, be it LPG gas cylinder, diesel, petrol, fertilizers etc.’
‘What else is left out? It is time for the UPA govt to be left out,’ she added.
Commenting that Railway Ministry had also been taken over by the Congress culture, BSP president Mayawati on Thursday said that the hike in rail fares was uncalled for and it should be taken back immediately.
‘Till now, the Railway ministry was spared from the wrong economic policies of the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre but the hike in rail fares shows complete ‘congressisation’ of the ministry,’ she said while talking to reporters here this afternoon.
The rail fare hike and that too before the railway budget was yet another ‘anti-people’ step of the Centre, the Bahujan Samaj Party president said demanding the Central government should immediately rescind its decision.
She warned the Central government to act seriously in the wake of attack of Pakistan army on indian soldiers breaching the Line of Control (LoC). ‘The defence and home ministries should give some serious thinking to this,’ she added. The former UP chief minister came down heavily on the Akhilesh Yadav government in the state on increasing crimes specially on women. ‘How the crimes in the state can be stopped when the entire government is full of crminals,’ she remarked.
