Mamata hits back at BJP: Just recall what SC said about CBI

It was learnt that TMC is going to raise the issue in the forthcoming Parliament session that why Prime Minister Narendra Modi has facilitated loan from SBI to Adani Group in Australia, which is under the scanner of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for over-valuation of capital equipment imports to the tune of Rs 5,500 crore.

TMC leaders questioned how come PM took Gautam Adani (owner of Adani Group) to Australia and sat next to him during the MoU of Rs 6,000 crore loan from SBI to Adani projects in Australia, which is not going to generate any employment for Indians. They also alleged that loan to the Adani Group was rejected by three other top financial institutions before SBI came to the picture.

‘When he is talking of Make in India, how come he is promoting such projects and taking away money from Indian nationalised bank?,’ TMC leaders questioned.

Also, the party leaders are going to tighten noose against the NDA government for sitting complacent over Delhi based Pearls Agrotech Corporation Ltd (PACL) promoted by Nirmal Bhangoo, which continues to collect money from rural India under the nose of probe agencies like CBI, SFIO, Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Finance Ministry.

‘PACL has accumulated more than Rs 50,000 crore (as a single company), which will match the entire ponzi schemes in Bengal, Assam, and in Orissa. Why the NDA government is so cooperative when it comes to Bhangoo because he is close to BJP and Akali leaders in the Punjab?’ another TMC leader said.

‘It is surprising that even after registering case against Bhangoo, CBI has not arrested him even for a day. Don’t you think that CBI is acting on behest of the BJP? His group has sponsored Rs 35 crore for the mega kabaddi event for three years organised by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is close to the BJP. Did the Modi government take any action against him?’ he asked.

While in contrast, the West Bengal government acted immediately against Saradha ponzi scam and arrested its owner Sudipta Sen including party MP Kunal Ghosh. TMC also questioned the intension of the CBI which is giving selective information to the media about the Saradha scam but not even a single line on PACL group.

On the other side, the party suspects a nexus of a powerful media baron Aveek Sarkar — who owns ABP Ananda, Telegraph, Anandabazaar Patrika (ABP) — and BJP President Amit Shah for having an alleged secrete understanding to wage a war against the TMC in Bengal, where BJP is desperate to
make inroads.

Taking a reference of recent threatening SMSes sent by Aveek Sarkar to the owner Srikant Mohta of Venkatesh Films, a leading production house, where he mentioned that ‘CBI and Amit Shah is watching him together,’ TMC suspects that this proves some nexus between Sarkar and BJP party President in Bengal. Mohta has already filed an FIR against Sarkar with the police.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while taking the reference of Bengali dailies including ABP owned by Sarkar and other editors, said these companies too had carried advertisements from various deposit-taking firms in their publications. ‘So should these newspaper editors not be arrested also? Why only Tumpai (Srinjoy),’ she questioned.

‘ABP organised an event sponsored by i-Core group (Chit Fund Company) abroad. If Tumpai can be arrested for entering business deals with a chit-fund, shouldn’t Aveek Sarkar be arrested too for accepting sponsorship or advertisements from chit-funds?,’ she added.

Banerjee, while addressing her party workers from Kolkata, Howrah and Hooghly at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata, expressed anger over some media reports and the BJP for dragging her party leaders in the ponzi scam. ‘I don’t have to say anything about CBI, the Supreme Court has already said enough about its credibility,’ she said.

She said: ‘I do not need a character certificate from the BJP. My credentials are known to the people of Bengal. Just because I went to Delhi to attend a conclave of secular parties, they took revenge by nabbing our MPs.’

‘NDA government is practicing divisive politics. If we are hit, we will hit back,’ she warned. She announced that her party will organise a rally against Centre’s vindictive politics on 24 November from College Square to Dorina Crossing in central Kolkata.

TMC sources said ABP Group owner tried to convert 3.5 acres of prime land on EM-Bypass in Kolkata into a commercial complex. This land was given to him for office purpose but now he wants to have a commercial complex on the same land, which is illegal.

Not the least, he also wanted to lease out a portion of the land to a private developer to build a five star hotel at Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC), which was protested and invited criticism from all spheres for holding a huge land at New Town to build Kolkata Museum of Modern Art (KMOMA). As per rule one has to start construction within three years of land allotment.

‘Aveek Sarkar and his group has got more than Rs 100 crore (approximately) collected from chit fund companies in the form of advertisements and give credence to all chit fund firms in Bengal. They have also extended an honour of ‘banga ratna’ to Anukul Maity of i-Core Group in New York
allegedly in exchange of Rs 500 crore as well as given another award to KKN group owned by Kaushik Nath in London. How come they are arresting only one newspaper group owner and allowing the major beneficiaries to roam freely?’ TMC leader questioned.
