The Gujarat BJP minority cell claimed to have received a robust response with nearly 40,000 members from the religious community expressing willingness to join the party. ‘We have received a good response to the membership drive initiated on the birthday of Narendra Modi. Close to 40,000 Muslims have expressed willingness to join the party,’ said state BJP minority cell president Mehbub Ali Bava.
Attributing the rise in membership to dissemination of correct information to the public through various mass media, Bava said, ‘Instead of ensuring employment opportunities for Muslims and better standard of living for the community, the Congress has only sought the votes of Muslims by polarising the nation.’ Muslims comprise about 9 per cent of Gujarat’s population.
Even the Maharashtra unit of the BJP Minority Morcha organised a dua (prayer) function in Mumbai to mark Modi’s birthday. ‘Party workers prayed that Modi becomes the next prime minister. They also prayed for his good health to Makdum Shah baba at Mahim dargah,’ said Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar.
In Delhi, launching the election campaign, BJP president Rajnath Singh said that the time had come now to throw Congress out of power. ‘We were out of power at a stretch for over 14 years, which is akin to vanvas by Lord Ram. This time, we must come to power in Delhi,’ said Singh.
The glamorous highlight of the day was the Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat, who through a video message, wished the BJP’s PM candidate and went on to describe him as the most eligible bachelor in the country.
