Malaysian national boxer beaten up in a brawl

A national-level boxer in Malaysia who won a gold for the country in South East Asia Games three years back, was severely beaten up by a group of men, leaving him with a broken cheekbone.

Muhamad Farkhan Mohd Haron, 24, who clinched the middleweight gold in the Laos Games in 2009, was knocked out flat in the brawl, reports said on Monday.

He was severely injured and taken to a private hospital where he is being warded.

Reports said the boxer was out with his friends when he received a call from a VIP person, who asked him to meet at a spot, where he was bashed up by some men including the VIP's son.

The police said today they have identified five suspects reportedly involved in the brawl, including the VIP's son.

The boxer was reported to be in a stable condition with a broken cheekbone and some injuries.

Muhamad Farkhan, who took up boxing at the age of 13, was nominated for the prestigious National Sports Council award last year.
