Maken adopts sports agenda to reach out to young voters in New Delhi seat

Unveiling a video campaign vehicle for his constituency on Monday, Maken claimed that he is not facing any ant-incumbency in the area.

‘Sports should be one of the major political issues and it should find appropriate space in the election manifestos of other political parties. The country can’t be a global super power without being a sports power,’ said Ajay Maken, describing his contribution for promotion of sports in the country.

‘The expenditure on physical fitness and heath in increasing exponentially which can be brought down to promoting sports and physical fitness,’ added Maken. He also released 32 brief films on various issues with a focus on sports promotion and sports facilities provided by him in New Delhi area.

‘These films will be uploaded on social media,’ added Maken, emphasising that the time has changed and social media has emerged a powerful medium of election campaign.

‘Voters now vote on issues not on slogans. My target is to reach out to voters in my area and convey the message of development and honesty,’ he added. The campaign emphasised on Maken’s ‘honesty’, with the tag line, ‘Dheron Kam, Bedag Nam (Several works, honest name)’.

‘People will vote for me as I have worked in the area,’ said Maken showing the ‘report cards’ on the development works for all ten assembly segments of New Delhi parliamentary constituency. Maken however, ducked the question of ant-incumbency against his party and Congress government. Attacking on Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi, he said that the party did nothing in Delhi.

‘Providing subsidy should not be confused with bring down electricity prices. Their subsidies are due to expire and people are again going to face the heat of power and water crisis,’ he added.
