However, the Chief Minister’s Office did not issue any official order regarding his official status but Majumdar’s office at the seventh floor of the Delhi Secretariat was unlocked and he attended it as well.
“It was one-to-one meeting which lasted for around 10 minutes,” said spokesperson of Chief Minister’s Office. Majumdar was removed on Saturday by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who holds charge of services and GAD departments, for following the directions of Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to issue the order to appoint Shakuntala Gamlin as Acting Chief Secretary.
The appointment later on snowballed into a tussle between Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and Kejriwal and the President had to issue a Gazette Notification to demarcate the Constitutional boundaries between both the authorities.
However, immediately after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government removed Majumdar, the LG had declared his removal “void”, and the AAP government did not allow him to resume work and had locked his office last Monday.
The AAP government had given the charge of services department and GAD to Rajender Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister.
Later on, the charge of GAD was given to a senior IAS officer Arvind Ray, who was kept in waiting. But the LG invalidated all these orders of the Delhi government citing he has the sole authority in matters of transfers and postings.
On Friday, Majumdar attended his office. According to his <g data-gr-id="45">staff</g> he also cleared some files related to the Services Department and General Administration department. But on Friday, his name plate was fixed again and he attended the office at the Delhi Secretariat.
Majumdar, however, refused to talk to media persons but maintained that he was performing his duties in conformity with the Constitution and established rules.
The Delhi government spokesperson, however, stated that the stand of the government has not changed in Majumdar’s case.
“He is the Principal Secretary but without any department. The services department is with Rajender Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister while GAD is with Arvind Ray,” said spokesperson
of the CMO.
Meanwhile, according to sources, Ray has gone on leave. Majumdar in his statement during the meeting of the IAS association on Wednesday said: “I will not follow any unconstitutional order.” He had reportedly urged Kejriwal government to stop humiliating senior bureaucrats.
