In a massive pile-up which took place near President’s house, five persons including a policeman sustained injuries near the Vijay Chowk intersection on Friday night. Police said, the incident took place at around 11.30 pm near the Rail Bhawan and the first collision took place between a Honda City car and a Maruti SX4 car after which the Honda City climbed onto the pavement while the SX4 car kept spinning at the spot. In the meantime, an over-speeding Audi car lost balance in a bid to avoid the rotating SX4 car and ended up colliding with a Maruti Alto, one Maruti Zen Estillo and a few motorcycles. According to a police official, out of the two PCR vans deployed in the area, one got hit. A sub-inspector was injured. “We identified the driver of the Audi car, Deepak Tomar and have arrested him,” said Jatin Narwal, DCP (New Delhi). Tomar, alleged to be in an inebriated condition, rammed into the PCR van after which he managed to flee from the spot. Since the airbags of the Audi car got activated, he did not sustain much injuries and fled from the scene. Police said that the injured persons, were rushed to Lok Nayak Hospital where they are undergoing treatment. A case has been registered at the Parliament Street police station under Section 279 (rash driving) of the IPC against the accused driver. Police are scanning the CCTV cameras to identify the driver who fled from the spot while his Audi car has been impounded.
