Maintenance over, water supply to normalise

The ‘temporary’ water crisis in the national Capital will soon be over as the annual maintenance of the upper Ganga Canal has been completed. The Bhagirathi and Sonia Vihar treatments plants in the city are expected to function at their optimum capacity now.

According to Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials, ‘this was an annual routine maintenance work started by the irrigation department of Uttar Pradesh.’ The official also claimed that the DJB ensured water supply is not hit during the maintenance work. ‘Both the water treatment plants in Delhi are expected to function at their optimum capacity, as the raw water will be available as required. During the entire period of maintenance work of the Upper Ganga Canal, DJB maintained normal water supply in the areas, served by the two plants.’

Colonies such as Greater Kailash, Panchsheel Park, Panchsheel Enclave, Malviya Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Defence Colony, IP Extension, Mandawli, Preet Vihar and Laxmi Nagar were worst effected during the maintenance work.

The water supply was normalised from Thursday morning, the officer added.
