Main accused in gang-rape held, cops mum on shooting

After the mother of the gang-rape victim was shot at in Jamia Nagar and was admitted to AIIMS, the cops are still tracing the assailants who fled after the incident. However, cops have now arrested the gang-rape accused in the case who they say was absconding.

The mother of the victim girl has already alleged that she was under pressure to withdraw the case. This is one reason why the shooting seems to be connected with the rape incident. However, the cops are tight-lipped if the arrested accused Sajid has any role to play in the firing incident or not.

The neighbours of the woman were too scared to narrate the incident. They are shocked that a woman was shot in broad daylight.

“Six raids were made since then to trace him and arrest. He was traced in Bijnor late last night during a raid and was brought to Delhi. He confessed and was arrested on Saturday,” says Romil Baniya DCP South-east District.

However, the DCP carefully remained quiet on whether Sajid had any role to play in the shooting or not. On being asked about the persons who fired he said: “Some suspects have been identified and their possible hideouts are being raided for tracing them.”

Earlier, DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal too visited the victim in the hospital and raised serious questions on the law and order situation in the Capital and the safety of women in Delhi.

The woman has filed a complaint with the police that her 15-year-old daughter was sexually assaulted by four men. An FIR was registered at Jamia Nagar police station but the cops could not make any arrests till Saturday, a day after the mother of the girl was shot at near her house.
