A day after the incident of alleged gang-rape and religious conversion of a 14-year-old girl in Gopalgarh village of Jewar region in Greater Noida, police have detained the main accused in the case.
Police have also slapped charges of gang-rape and abduction of a minor girl against Imran, the accused. Police, however, have still not ascertained whether the girl was forced to convert to other religion.
As per reports, Imran, a resident of Mehandipur, had befriended the girl, who studies in class 10th, by hiding his original identity about one month ago. He promised her to marry and and started pressurising her to change her religion and accept Islam.
The accused allegedly threatened her with dire consequences, if she declined her proposal. The girl then stopped talking to him.
On Sunday, he along with three of his friends allegedly kidnapped the girl on her way to school and gang-raped her.
The father of the victim, in his complaint, has alleged that Imran befriended his daughter by changing his name to Raju. When she finally agreed for marriage, Imran disclosed his real identity and forced her to change her religion.
As the matter came to light, the family members of the girl along with members of various right-wing groups protested at Jewar police station. A case was registered against Imran and his three unnamed friends under POCSO and other sections of IPC.
